When Tanya and Jonathan moved into their new home, they couldn’t wait to add their own personality to the space. And as they worked through the long list of home improvements they were itching to make, Web-Blinds helped them put the finishing touch on the kitchen.
“The previous owners had Vertical blinds throughout the home,” explains Jonathan. “They were pretty neutral, but they were old and just not us.”
So when it was time to update their kitchen window, they couldn’t wait to find something new.
“We sat down one evening,” said Tanya, “and searched for a blinds retailer. After finding Web-Blinds, we were impressed by the choice. There were lots of lovely fabrics we could have picked, so we ordered some samples.
“When our choices arrived, it was really good to be able to hold them up in our own home, and see how they looked against everything else. We both liked the red stripes of the ‘Theme Park’ fabric from the Roman blinds collection.
“When it came to ordering, we decided to opt for a blackout lining because we wanted a really sumptuous look. It’s nice as well to be able to sit at the breakfast bar without the sun blinding you.
“Our blind came quickly, and we couldn’t wait to fit it. Jonathan is pretty handy anyway, but it was so easy, even a DIY novice could do it. It looks so lovely, and it’s the finishing touch on our homely kitchen.”
The traditional stripy blind put the finishing touch on what is a quintessentially English kitchen – you only have to look at Tanya’s Cath Kidston china collection to see what we’re talking about. But there is one imposter from across the pond…
“We’re both cat lovers,” explains Tanya, “so we couldn’t resist this Kit-Cat Klock® from our trip to New York. And when we brought it back, our family loved it so much we had to bring them one each back from the Big Apple the next time we went!”
In fact, the company behind the clocks estimates that one has been sold every three minutes for the last fifty years, so you might say they’re pretty iconic. And just like the stripes on their blind, we’re sure it’s a look that will last for years to come.
Fact File: Meet Tanya and Jonathan
My home: We love our four-bedroom, modern family home. We’ve a DIY to-do list as long as our arm, but we know we’ll get there in the end. Next on the list is to add in a downstairs toilet – it will be so much more convenient with our little one, Elizabeth.
My room then: There were a number of things that had to go, including the neutral Vertical blind that just wasn’t us.
My room now: Now, our kitchen is a real family space we love to spend time in. We can pull up our new Roman blind right to the top to gaze into the garden which is lovely, and we like that it’s provided a focal point for the room.
Proudest project: Taking on such a project at all! When we bought this house, though it certainly wasn’t in a state of disrepair, we knew it wouldn’t be exactly what we wanted straight away. But with a downstairs bathroom, living room renovation and a couple of wall knock-throughs planned, we’ve plenty in the pipeline!
