Nikki and Ian’s stunning living room and kitchen blinds

Nikki and Ian’s home tells the story of their relationship. The couple first met at the exact spot they would build their matrimonial home. In the first of a three-part series about the property, we talk to Nikki and Ian after they finished the kitchen and living room with Wooden blinds.

Nikki and Ian’s home is a new build with a difference. Sitting in a conservation area, the home is built from stone, locally sourced to fit in with its neighbours.

Nikki and her husband Ian first met opposite the plot of land their new home sits on while walking their dogs – a white Westie and black Scottie respectively. Who knew they’d end up building a home there together?

Now, their four-legged friends Barney and Mac play an important part in the décor scheme, appearing in Nikki and Ian’s wedding photos. They even look part of a pair. But in their home as a whole, it’s their understated design that takes centre stage.

“The whole project took around a year. The footings went in the day we got married,” says Nikki.

“Because we chose everything from scratch, we were almost spoilt for choice. We knew we wanted a tidy, simple interior and the windows to have real kerb appeal from outside. Web-Blinds helped us achieve that.

“Unusually, we chose our blinds as a starting point. They were integral to the whole process, helping us to create the clean look we wanted inside and outside.”

Kitchen and dining room

The white Wooden blinds in the living room and kitchen are stylish and allow them to filter the light coming in as they please.

Nikki loves the way the added tape makes them look more robust and neat. And because the space is open-plan, the matching blinds help to tie together each room too. It’s not just the appearance Ian’s pleased with…

“I was impressed by how easy the blinds were to fit,” says Ian. “A colleague and I blitzed the living room and kitchen windows in no time at all.”

In the living room, Nikki and Ian went for grey sofas as they knew the colour would lend itself well to different cushion combinations allowing them to change the feel of the room. For now, it’s a geometric and dusky pink combo. The whole effect is sleek and stylish.

“I’m not a fan of too much stuff,” says Ian, “I like things to be clean and simple – though I do make an exception for my Vespa ornaments!”

Next time, we take a look at how they got on when it came to decorating their guest bedroom and office.
