Bank holidays are the perfect excuse for a touch of DIY. We hand over to Megan to find out how she and her partner Oli faired during the second half of their bank holiday DIY-athon.
Our second bank holiday project
We were so delighted with our guestroom which we completed over the Easter break, that we were spurred on to knuckle down in our bathroom over the May Day weekend.
We’d already replaced the bathroom suite, but the dated coloured walls remained. The hard slog was over, but it was the little details that kept getting pushed to the bottom of the pile.
May Day was the day
So with May Day a week away, we set to some important prep. I picked out a light blue for the walls. We wanted something that would create a fresh, contemporary feel. As usual, Oli was more than happy to let me take the lead in the design department!
And of course, when it was time to pick a blind, we came back to Web-Blinds. We were so delighted with the Roman blinds in our guestroom, it wouldn’t have made sense to go anywhere else. The room originally had a shower curtain type window covering which was unsightly and so not our style!
We decided a Roller blind would be just the ticket, and found a fabric in our in our mutual fave shade, duck egg blue. ‘Delightful Duckegg’ was the stand out winner for us, and we knew immediately it would add the interest we wanted.
We picked out vintage-style knobs for the cupboard which complement our new medicine cabinet nicely. We were aiming for a clean look, but one that was homely rather than clinical.
A few days later when our blind arrived, it was well packaged and with last month’s DIY under our belt, it was up in no time! We both love the way it finishes our room off beautifully.
The little touches made all the difference
I think it’s the little things that matter. The big things may have been done, but it never really felt like ours. Now everything from the traditional style medicine cabinet, to the little clock on the wall is one hundred percent us.
As our bathroom mixes both modern and traditional touches, we like that the fabric of Delightful Duckegg reflects that. The classic floral and bird design doesn’t look chintzy with the light colour way and simple silhouette. We couldn’t be happier!
Fact File – Meet Megan and Oli
Our home: We’ve lived in our two bedroom terraced house in Leicestershire for over two and a half years now and couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else home.
Our room then: We wanted to personalise our bathroom to us, as it still felt like the previous owner’s. We’d done the hard slog by replacing the suite, but the finishing touches remained.
And now: We’ve created a traditional yet modern bathroom, which is finished off nicely by the beautiful blind. A splash of duck egg paint on the wall and now a stylish Roller blind at the window has worked a treat!
Proudest project: We’re not afraid of a design project and have spent time modernising each room in the house. We’ll have to start on the garden now, as we’ve finished every room!
