Kerry’s coastal bedroom and stylish en suite

Grappling with a new home that hadn’t been updated by the previous owners in 40 years, Kerry set about transforming her bedroom and en suite.  And she made some fantastic choices when it came to the blinds…

“When we first moved in,” says Kerry, “it was very dated as the previous owners had been here for 40 years.  There was no wall dividing the bedroom from the toilet and shower which was a bit too open for us!  We had a proper wall built in and redid the (avocado no less) en-suite, removing the white curtains and pink carpet.

“Having moved to Lincolnshire from the South Coast we were keen to incorporate our memories of the beach.  We chose soft shades for the bedroom walls to represent the beach and sea and to complement the canvas print we have of the view of the beach huts at Mudeford in Dorset.

“The beach theme was continued with the driftwood clock and our choice of wardrobe doors and bedside cabinets.

And the coastal feel didn’t stop when it came to the window. Kerry found just what she was looking for with the appropriately named Shingle Beach Roman blind from Web-Blinds.

“When we chose a replacement for the old white curtains, we knew we wanted something much more modern but that would still feel snug,” says Kerry.   “A Roman blind with blackout lining seemed the obvious choice.  The blind has fulfilled both of these aims and the blackout lining option was definitely worth it – we sleep so much better!

Kerry chose a Fauxwood blind for her en suite window, which although practical, doesn’t compromise on style. The striking black slats add to the monochrome scheme perfectly.

“We went with the colour theme of black and white as we felt it was timeless and would enable us to shift between accent colours with ease.

But it wasn’t just colour schemes Kerry had under control. She was a dab hand at fitting too.

“The website had really helpful directions on how to measure and fit, which meant it really didn’t take long. I also couldn’t believe how swiftly the blinds arrived.”

So thanks to Kerry for showing that wherever in the world you are, it’s possible to create a little slice of costal cool.
